Rules for steel security bollards in Scotland

Works in a public road or footway need the roads authority's written consent under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984. On private land the owner's agreement is what matters; listed buildings and conservation areas need a word with the planning team first.

How installation works

Break out and excavate

For root-fixed posts, the surface is cut neatly and each hole is dug to depth, by hand near known services. For base plates, the slab is checked for thickness and soundness.

Set the posts

Posts are set plumb and to a consistent height along the line, and concreted in. Base-plated posts are drilled, anchored with resin and torqued once cured.

Fill and cap

Where specified, posts are filled with concrete and capped so water cannot collect inside the tube.

Reinstate and finish

The surface around each post is made good to match, and reflective bands are fitted. Damaged galvanising from handling is touched up.

Steel security bollards in East Renfrewshire: FAQs

Do you cover all of East Renfrewshire for steel security bollards?

Yes — including Newton Mearns, Barrhead and Giffnock. Enter your postcode in the price calculator to confirm.

How much do steel security bollards cost in East Renfrewshire?

In East Renfrewshire, typically £195–£895 per bollard, supplied and installed, plus VAT (£225–£1,045 including VAT for homeowners), with a minimum job of £595 plus VAT, using our Scotland guide prices. The fixed figure comes in writing after we've seen the site.

Who do I ask about bollards on public land in East Renfrewshire?

The council is the roads authority for local roads (East Renfrewshire Council); Transport Scotland covers trunk roads. Works in a public road need the roads authority's written consent.

Are unrated steel bollards anti-ram?

No. They have not been crash-tested, so their performance against a deliberate vehicle attack is unknown. They are suited to nuisance parking and low-speed knocks; tested products are needed where an attack is the concern.

Can new posts match our existing ones?

Usually, if we can measure the existing diameter, height, cap and colour. Galvanised steel in standard sizes is easy to match; older or unusual sections may need a close equivalent.
