Rules for removable bollards in England
Bollards on adopted highway are a matter for the highway authority under the Highways Act 1980, so they need its written agreement. On private land the owner's agreement is what matters; listed buildings and conservation areas need a word with the planning team first. Accessibility guidance asks for posts at least 1,000 mm high with contrasting tops and no chains between them.

How installation works
Agree who will lift the post
At the free site survey we talk through who will remove the post, how often and where it will be stored. That decides material, diameter and lock, and goes into a fixed written quote.
Cut and excavate
A small square of surface is cut out and excavated to socket depth, with a bed of free-draining stone at the bottom so water can leave the socket.
Reinstate around the socket
Block paving, tarmac or flags are cut tight to the collar and made good. On resin or bound surfaces, the edge is sealed neatly.
Fit posts and hand over keys
Posts are fitted and locked, and the lift-out and refit routine is checked on site. Keys and any storage brackets are handed over.
Removable bollards in Oxfordshire: FAQs
Do you cover all of Oxfordshire for removable bollards?
Yes — including Oxford, Banbury, Abingdon, Bicester, Didcot and Witney. Enter your postcode in the price calculator to confirm.
How much do removable bollards cost in Oxfordshire?
In Oxfordshire, typically £265–£895 per bollard with ground socket, supplied and installed, plus VAT (£315–£1,045 including VAT for homeowners), with a minimum job of £625 plus VAT, using our South East guide prices. The fixed figure comes in writing after we've seen the site.
Who do I ask about bollards on public land in Oxfordshire?
For local roads, Oxfordshire County Council; National Highways covers motorways and trunk roads. Bollards on adopted highway need the highway authority's written agreement.
Can all the bollards on our site use one key?
Yes, if the locks are ordered keyed alike. That is common on estates and car parks with several access points. Spare keys can be supplied at the same time.
What happens to the hole when the bollard is out?
A lid on the socket closes over it so the surface is flush. Spring-closing lids shut automatically when the post is lifted. That stops trips and keeps debris out.
