How much do bollards cost to buy and install in the UK?
Typical UK supply-and-install prices for each bollard type, what moves the figure, three worked examples, VAT and minimum charges.
Computer-generated imageMost fixed steel bollards cost £195–£895 each supplied and installed, plus VAT, with removable posts at £245–£845 and telescopic posts at £345–£1,195. Automatic rising bollards start from around £2,995 per bollard and crash-rated posts from around £1,995 per position, before access control, permits or traffic management. The ground, the number of posts, buried services and any highway consent move the price most, so the fixed figure comes in writing after a free survey.
What does each type of bollard cost?

Business products are shown plus VAT and homeowner driveway posts include VAT. The bottom of each range is a plain specification and the top a heavy-duty or architectural one; our local pages adjust for your region.

What makes one bollard job cost more than another?
The ground, the quantity and the site usually matter more than the post itself.
- Surface. Tarmac and soft ground are simplest. Block paving or slabs add around £40–£150 per post to lift and relay, and core drilling concrete adds £60–£250.
- Quantity. Travel, set-up and plant are shared across the job, so one or two posts often meet the minimum charge, while longer runs spread those costs over more posts.
- Buried services. Cables and pipes found during locating can move positions or mean hand-digging and trial holes. Our foundations guide explains why.
- Foundation. A crash-rated bollard must sit on the foundation it was tested with, which is often a larger cost than the post.
- Old posts. Taking out existing posts and footings adds £80–£345 per post.
- Working hours. Evening, night or weekend work so a site can keep trading adds £295–£945 per job.
- Highway work. Traffic management runs at £245–£895 per day, and a licence or permit with its application at £395–£1,895, where either is needed.
- Power and controls. Automatic bollards need a supply, ducting and drainage, and ANPR, fob or keypad control adds £595–£11,995 per entrance.
What would four removable bollards on block paving cost?
Four removable bollards on block paving typically cost £1,845–£3,295 plus VAT, using the Upgraded specification in our price calculator at the UK base rate.
That covers four lift-out posts with matched keys and reflective bands, cutting out the blocks, excavating each position, setting the sockets level in concrete over a free-draining base and relaying the original blocks around them. The range is wide because post weight, finish and lock type vary: a plain galvanised post sits at the lower end and stainless or heavy-duty posts at the top. If old posts have to come out first, add £80–£345 for each one.
What does a single automatic bollard entrance cost?
A single automatic rising bollard with fob or keypad control typically comes to £7,195–£23,595 plus VAT on the Upgraded specification, including the foundation box, drainage, ducting, control panel, safety loops, signs and commissioning.
Automatic entrances carry a minimum job value of around £2,995, because the groundworks, electrics and commissioning are much the same for one bollard as for two. ANPR sits at the top of the access control range. A qualified electrician runs the supply, so a long cable route from the building adds cost, and planned servicing then runs at £95–£345 per visit plus VAT.
Highway schemes cost more again. Cambridgeshire County Council's 2024 award for two non-rated rising bollards, including removing the old units, loops, a signal head, cabinet, paving reinstatement and three years' maintenance, was £30,969 (Bidstats).
What would ten warehouse impact posts cost?
Ten yellow steel impact bollards bolted to a sound warehouse slab typically cost £1,745–£6,045 plus VAT on the Standard specification.
Bolt-down posts need no break-out, so most of the cost is the posts, anchors and labour. The price rises with diameter and with polymer systems that flex on impact. Posts root-fixed by core drilling into the slab add £60–£250 each, and working around shifts or at weekends adds £295–£945 per job. We check slab thickness and condition before quoting, because an anchor is only as good as the concrete it sits in. See warehouse impact protection.
Is VAT charged on bollards?
Yes. Bollard supply and installation carries VAT at the standard rate of 20%, so business prices on this site are shown plus VAT and homeowner driveway prices include it.
Our written quote shows VAT separately. If your organisation is VAT-registered, your accountant can confirm whether you can reclaim it. Council licence and permit fees are set by the authority and shown as their own line in the quote.
Is there a minimum charge for small bollard jobs?
Yes, for installations. Small jobs carry a minimum charge that covers getting a crew, tools and materials to site, so one or two posts often cost the minimum.
Typical minimums are around £595 for fixed steel posts, £595 for removable posts and £345 for fold-down parking posts, all plus VAT. On the Upgraded specification, a single fixed steel bollard comes to £595–£695 while three come to £1,195–£2,095. Repair visits start from £115 plus VAT and are priced in writing before we attend.

Questions
Why do crash-rated bollards cost so much more?
A crash-rated bollard only keeps its rating on the foundation it was tested with, which is usually deep, reinforced and often linked between posts. That foundation is commonly a larger cost than the post itself, and design fees, utility diversions and permits are extra again.
Do bollard prices vary by region?
Yes, a little. Our local pages adjust guide prices for regional labour and travel, from around 4% below the UK base to around 15% above it in London, and the written quote after survey is what you pay.
Is it cheaper to buy bollards online and have them fitted?
Online prices are usually for the product only and leave out the socket or cassette, concrete, excavation, reinstatement, disposal and labour. Compare like for like by asking what each installed price includes. For crash-rated products the tested foundation is usually the bigger part of the cost.
How much does it cost to remove a bollard?
Removal typically costs £80–£345 per post plus VAT, including breaking out the footing and making good the surface. Large reinforced security foundations cost more and are priced after survey.
Is the survey free?
Yes. Surveys for installations are free and lead to a fixed, itemised written quote. Repair and servicing visits are priced in writing before we attend.
